grieving the past & inner child healing

Grief is not limited to the loss of a loved one. Many people carry grief related to childhood experiences, unmet emotional needs, painful relationships, family dynamics, lost opportunities, or versions of themselves they never had the chance to become. Often, this type of grief goes unrecognized, yet it continues to shape how we view ourselves, our relationships, and our place in the world.

Grieving the past often includes grieving the child you once were—the child who adapted, survived, and did the best they could with the resources available to them. It may involve mourning the love, protection, understanding, or emotional safety that was missing, while developing greater compassion for the ways you learned to cope. By acknowledging these experiences, therapy can help create a more connected and nurturing relationship with yourself in the present.

Through a psychodynamic and somatic approach, Nicole helps clients explore these experiences with curiosity, compassion, and care. Together, therapy becomes a space to honor what has been lost, understand how the past continues to influence the present, and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself. While grief cannot erase what happened, it can create space for healing, acceptance, and a deeper connection to who you are today.
